DESCRIPTION OF BRUCITE

Mineral Description

Brucite is a naturally occurring hydrated magnesium oxide. A primary use is in anti-fire. At about 300C Brucite will lose its water of hydration, absorb energy and provide its anti-fire protection.

Brucite Natural- Brucite is a naturally occurring form of magnesium hydroxide. Our product is selectively mined and beneficiated by heavy media separation. It is ground to a fine powder suitable for polymer compounding. The major use for Brucite is as a fire retardant. Starting at about 300C the Brucite decomposes (Mg(OH)2 into Mg0 plus H20) absorbing heat and releasing water. This reaction is the basis of the fire retardant and smoke suppression property.

Brucite Synthetic-Brucite Grade S is a synthetic form of magnesium hydroxide. Our product is precipitated from sea water, beneficiated to remove impurities, and ground to 325 mesh.
